These sites, as listed by UNESCO, are areas that are deemed to have outstanding natural or cultural value and are therefore worthy of protection. The World Heritage status helps countries to safeguard their sites and to protect them for future generations, and once a country is on the list it it receives national and international recognition. These truly are tourism highlights and should not be missed on any trip to the region . Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens - Cape Town
Kirstenbosch, in the shadows of Table Mountain is the only botanical garden in the world to be proclaimed a World Heritage Site. Enjoy 6 000 species of trees, fynbos, protea and cycad.

 

Sterkfontein Caves, Cradle of Humankind - South Africa

The Sterkfontein Caves are part of "The Cradle of Humankind" - an important area where it has been discovered man first roamed. There is a multimedia visitor's centre at Maropeng.

 

 

 

Robben Island - Cape Town
